Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Smartwatch Review
The Fitbit Charge 5 is an excellent choice for runners, but it also has many other features that appeal to people who aren’t regular runners. It’s designed to be lightweight and comfortable enough for everyday wear, and it has a long battery life, so you won’t have to charge it too frequently.
If you’re looking for a solid fitness tracker that’s good at tracking your steps, heart rate, and overall activity level (not just running), then the Fitbit Charge 5 is one of the best available options on the market right now.
What Comes in the Box
The Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Smartwatch comes with the following:
- The fitness tracker itself
- A wireless charging cable, which you’ll use to plug your device into any standard USB port or wall adapter
- A wireless charging base that you’ll use to charge the device. (It works more quickly if plugged into a wall outlet.)
In addition, here are all of the items contained in the box:
- User guide and warranty card
The Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Tracker at a Glance
The Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Tracker is a stylish smartwatch that offers all of the usual fitness tracker essentials, along with advanced features like GPS, heart-rate monitoring and sleep tracking. It doesn’t have a touchscreen display but instead uses physical buttons on the side of its case. The Charge 5 comes in three colours—silver/white, black/grey, and lavender rose gold—and has interchangeable bands to customize your style.
“It’s not just for fitness: This watch also can help you manage your calendar and keep track of incoming texts from an iPhone if you’re using an Apple Watch or Android device with a companion app installed (IOS 11 or later).”

The Basics of the Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Tracker
The Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Tracker is an excellent choice for anyone looking to get more active or stay healthy. The device features a touchscreen display and is lightweight, so you’ll barely notice that it’s on your wrist. The Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Tracker also has a unique design that makes it comfortable to wear even during physical activities.
The Monitor and Notifications that Come with the Device
The Charge 5 will vibrate when you get a text message or receive calls or notifications. If you’re in the middle of a workout and don’t have time to look at your watch for information about who’s trying to contact you, this feature can be convenient because it’s easy to feel the vibration on your wrist. The Charge 5 also has an alarm function that allows users to set the alarm with their smartphone without using the app. You can choose from three alarms: gentle wake-up call, morning call and evening call. The device will vibrate when it’s time for these alarms to avoid disturbing anyone around you while they’re sleeping (or snoring).
The most exciting feature is called “Reminders To Move”. It’s pretty simple: when this feature is turned on and motionless for too long during your day off work/school/etc., it will send notifications reminding us that we need some physical activity!
The GPS Feature
The GPS feature is an excellent addition to the Charge 5. The GPS lets you track your location, speed, distance and pace. It also tracks elevation, which you can use for various activities like hiking or running on uneven terrain. This feature is designed to work only with the Fitbit app on your phone; however, if you have an iPhone, there will be some limitations when using this feature because Apple doesn’t allow apps on their devices to access the GPS signal in real-time as Android does (yet).
The GPS feature does seem accurate, but it’s not perfect by any means, and there are times when I’ve noticed slight discrepancies between what my Fitbit showed me compared with Google Maps or other apps that use GPS signals, such as Strava or MapMyRun.
Wrist-Based Heart Rate Monitoring
The Charge 5 is a good choice if you’re looking for a wrist-based heart rate monitoring option. This is a handy feature for tracking your heart rate during workouts and seeing your progress over time, but it can also be helpful in other ways. For example, suppose you have any concerns about heart health or are trying to manage specific conditions like hypertension. In that case, this is one of the most convenient ways to monitor your overall health.

Sleep Monitoring
Sleep monitoring is one of the most valuable features of the Charge 5, and it’s something that many other fitness trackers can’t do. If you’re not wearing your exercise tracker to bed, then how do you know how many hours of sleep you’ve gotten? The Charge 5 tracks your sleep by measuring your heart rate through a small sensor on the back of the device. More intense breathing and heart rates will occur when your body enters REM sleep (rapid eye movement). When it enters deep sleep, there will be less movement and less fluctuation in breathing patterns; this means that if you’re only getting deep sleep at night but not much REM or light levels of rest, then it could indicate an issue with stress hormones like cortisol affecting how deeply we sleep each night.
Female Health Tracking
- The device can track your menstrual cycle, ovulation and basal body temperature (BBT).
- It also tracks cervical fluid during specific points in the cycle.
- You can view all of this data on the app, and it will show you how long your menstrual cycles are.
Steps and Active Minutes Tracking
The Charge 5 can track your steps, active minutes, and hourly activity. Steps are any movement that results in a step being registered by the accelerometer. An active minute is any minute you meet or exceed the Move goal (see below). The Move goal is 7,000 steps per day.
What is a step?
One step equals one foot-stomp or heel-to-toe movement in 12 seconds. This can be either right or left foot. You don’t need to lift your feet off the floor to count it as a step; make sure they’re moving forward at least once every 12 seconds for it to count towards your total number of actions taken each day.
Floors Climbed Tracking
The Fitbit Charge 5 fitness smartwatch can also track the number of floors you climb in a day, week and month. This feature measures the elevation data it gets from your wrist when you go up and down stairs. The Charge 5 uses this data to determine how many stairs you have climbed. To do so, it needs to know if you are walking or running on a treadmill or inclined ramp and if you are walking outside or inside an office building (inside would be more likely).
For this feature to work correctly:
- You need to ensure that Auto Exercise Detection is turned on under Settings > Exercising > Auto Exercise Detection
- You need at least 120 minutes of exercise per week
Active Zone Minutes Tracking
The Charge 5 can track your active minutes based on your heart rate. This feature is available if you have an accessory heart rate strap and is used to determine the intensity of your activity.
When you first start an exercise session, the tracker will ask how much time you want to exercise. The default setting is 30 minutes, but you can change this to 15 or 60 minutes if desired. Suppose it’s set at 15 or 30 minutes. In that case, a new screen will appear on the tracker after 10 minutes, alerting you that it’s time for another activity interval at a higher intensity (for example).

Gym Connectivity on the Charge 5 Fitness Tracker Device
If you’re planning on using the Fitbit Charge 5 to track your gym workouts and activities, you must know that not all gyms support the charging of fitness trackers. The good news is that if a gym does have wireless charging stations installed, you can use them to charge up your Fitbit Charge 5.
To do this, connect your device to the Wi-Fi network of the gym where you’re working out and open up its app. Once there, create an account (if it isn’t already started) and sync your device with the app by selecting “Wireless Sync” under Wireless Settings in Settings on your phone or computer.
Weather Information from the Charge 5 Fitness Tracker Watch
You can check the weather in your current location or another location. You can view detailed weather information for the next seven days and hourly forecasts for the next 24 hours. The Charge 5 Fitness Tracker Watch has a barometric altimeter to measure elevation, so you’ll know how many stairs you climbed and how many floors you went up while exercising.
Music Controls
You can control music on the Fitbit Charge 5 using its touchscreen or button controls. The button controls will let you pause and play music, skip forward and backward in a playlist, adjust volume levels, raise or lower alarms set on your phone, and have intelligent access notifications.
The touchscreen is also how you’ll use the Fitbit Charge 5 to control music on your phone. When you connect two devices via Bluetooth 4.2 technology (or NFC), one must be streaming music for the other to control it remotely via a connected app like Spotify or Apple Music. Any song that’s already playing when these two devices are linked will automatically sync with each other, so they’re both playing at the same time; if there isn’t any existing audio being played through either device yet, tapping “Play” will start streaming an album off Apple Music by default unless users change this setting beforehand within their settings menu found under My Day > Track Daily Activity > Settings > Connected Devices & Apps section where they can see which apps have been granted permission thus far along with choosing new ones by clicking “Add App.” This same process works if someone wants to listen while working outside too!
Reminders to Move, Set Goals, Take Breaks and More from the Device
“The Fitbit Charge 5 reminds you to get moving with a subtle vibration.”
When the move reminder is on, the device will vibrate every hour if you’ve been sedentary for at least an hour. You can also choose whether to be reminded when your activity minutes are low or when your heart rate is elevated.
The Fitbit Charge 5 has a built-in stopwatch, timer and alarm clock to track your workouts better by keeping time in real time. The stopwatch allows users to record splits or laps throughout their workout to analyze their performance over time (i.e., improve). The timer helps users keep track of how long specific exercises take place—which may be helpful for runners who want to know how far they’ve gone during a run or for lifters who need to keep track of each set’s duration to increase muscle mass evenly across all parts of their body during training sessions (i.e., avoid injury). The alarm clock wakes users up gently with its default alarms —or shakes them awake if they choose “shake” as one type of alarm—and then lets them snooze using either buttons on their watch face or simply tapping it twice against their wrist while still asleep (this feature comes in handy when mornings are hard).
With all its features, this fitness tracker is a great deal for its price.
The Fitbit Charge 5 is a great fitness tracker with many features. It’s affordable, easy to use and comfortable to wear. It also has a good battery life and an app that works well together. And the best part? It’s water-resistant!
Conclusion
The Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Tracker is an affordable way to get all the features you need in a fitness tracker. It has built-in GPS tracking, wrist-based heart rate monitoring and other functions that make it easy to track your progress towards your goals. The Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Tracker comes with several pre-loaded apps on the device, so you can start using it right out of the box without any hassle or setup time!
